Splatball is something I wanted to do not because of the money but to do what I feel is right for the area. I plan on being open almost every weekend this coming year spring to winter but will not be open on both Saturday and Sunday. Rather just one day and a certain time also probably 1pm-5pm. Because I believe with the low population of paintball players in the area being open both days would make it so that not as many people show up on that day to get a descent day of play in. I am shooting for Sundays 1pm-5pm. The one good thing about splatball is that it will be on the farm (where I work everyday) so either day would work for me for the most part. Another thing that will separate me from other places is that the Xball field will be set up (whatever current psp layout is) all the time so no need to be taking down/storing them. Notice why I bought a used field :)
Another thing I wanted to do seeing/being an experienced player is the little things. Like descent grass, well set up fields/bunkers, safety/netting, air fills, GOOD paint fair priced and so on. I truly can say I love this sport and want to be able to share it with others at the next level. About the field I know it's not the psp red/blue rather Yellow but I bought it so that I can use our team 5man field (which is yellow) when the new bunkers come out for the 2008 layout. The field is regulation 52 bunkers which includes 10 temples, 5 giant beams, 4 tombstones, 4 baby bricks, 4 cans, 4 med X, 4 sm doritos, 4 lar doritos, and of course the giant X. Also have 19 bunkers from our team 5man field so I don't think I will be short of cover:) The dimensions will be regulation also 150x125 with well marked out bunker placements. I will have a speaker system with the Xball buzzer that is so well known also with 5 min game time. Air fills unfortunately will not be 4500psi but spending 10grand on a compressor wasn't in my agenda to say the least. I will have 2-3 bulk 4500psi tanks which will be more then enough. Paint I am still working on but can assure you that it will not be crap that doesn't break in your gun rather your target. Looking at Xball brands but will see what I can work out. The great thing about the actual location where the field will be is it that half of it is under shade and the staging area will also be under shade so you can play on those burning days.
What to Expect
History of Splatball
I started splatball when I was 17 starting off by building a woodsball/speedfield combination. Full with cover including pallets, natural cover, cars, buses, barrels, anything that could be used to hide behind. I eventually got more or less bored with it and then made a concept speedball field out of pallets on the same ground I am going to put this Xball field on. To my surprise alot of the players that played at my field did't like speedball and short story after two years it died off because of it. It was fun while it lasted but is the reason that has driving me to play this game and start it back up again:)
This was write up in the local paper back in 2001 I did it to get more people in the area into the sport.Above is a picture of My brother on the speedball field who also played with me/helped me build all that junk:) I am on the bottom sporting the flatline.... shooting from the bus me and my brother stole from our Uncle:)
This was on the woodsball field. In the middle of it was a road where we would pull that bus pictured above into the middle of it as well as some beat up cars. My brother shooting out of one of the two forts we had on each end
This was taking with a few players in the fort. It was a 10X10 fort two story's tall. Still stands to this day lol.
This was my first tourney I ever played/hosted by myself:) Was a blast it was 3-man on the speedball field, and 5 man on the wooded. I got 8 teams total to come out and play it one of them Demolition.
